How to Fold, Pack, Store and Transport a Flat Cap?

Flat caps are travel-friendly by design, but a little care goes a long way in keeping them looking sharp - whether you are storing them at home or packing them for a trip.

Should You Fold a Flat Cap?

Most flat caps can be gently folded without harm, but it is always best to avoid excessive creasing.

Soft-Crown Caps: Linen and cotton driving caps can be folded in half along the centre seam.

Structured Caps: Wool or tweed caps with a firm peak should be rolled rather than sharply folded to avoid damaging the brim.

How to Pack a Flat Cap

1) Stuff the Crown

Use tissue paper, a soft T-shirt, or socks to gently fill the crown and maintain its shape.

2) Lay Peak Down

Place the cap with the peak against a flat surface in your suitcase.

3) Surround with Soft Clothes

Position it among softer garments to protect it from crushing.

  • What Is a Flat Cap?

A flat cap is a rounded, soft-crowned hat with a short, stiff brim at the front. By the late 19th and early 20th century, they were worn by everyone from labourers and farmers to gentlemen at leisure. Today, the flat cap retains its heritage charm while being embraced as a versatile style in both town and country.
