Celebrating 350 Years of Lock & Co.

2 min read

2026 is a very special year for Lock & Co. as we celebrate our 350th anniversary.  From the reigns of King Charles II to His Majesty King Charles III, Lock’s has proudly served London
and beyond since 1676. For three-and-a-half centuries, Lock & Co. has
provided the very best quality hats, outstanding customer service and offered an ownership experience second to none. When you buy a Lock & Co. hat, we look after it for life.

Still in family ownership and still in the heart of London’s West End, Lock & Co. is the oldest hat shop in the world, and the oldest shop in London. Indeed, Lock’s is 100 years older than the United States of America, which celebrates its own significant milestone of its 250th
anniversary in 2026.

Whether considering a hat for the first time, or purchasing one of our more famous pieces like the Bowler or ‘Coke’ hat (invented by Lock’s in 1849), our lovely team of expert hatters and couture milliners are always ready to welcome you. You can even explore our newly renovated Heritage Room, with a collection of some of our most famous head-shapes and significant ledgers,
letters and maps.

Our 17th Century townhouse welcomes visitors from around the globe, and we have hatted some of the most notable people in history. Our website, www.lockhatters.com, provides carefully curated information about our hats and services, plus the ability to purchase from our full range of men’s and women’s pieces even when away from No. 6 St. James’s Street.

2026 will see Lock & Co. celebrating throughout the year, with very special events to attend, exclusive limited-edition men’s and women’s hats and caps launched each month - and even some extra-secret surprises! We would love to send you invitations and save-the-dates, so please do sign-up to our newsletter and we will keep you in touch with all the stories from No. 6.

We are enormously grateful for your support, friendship and custom, and we hope that you will be part of our partying. Here’s to our 350 years of service, and we are excited to show you what the next 350 years will bring.

On behalf of all the team at Lock & Co.,

Ben Dalrymple

Managing Director
