The Ascot was created by James Lock III in the 19th century in response to the growing demand for a superior hat to that of the silk topper for the Royal Enclosure at Ascot. To this day, the grey rabbit-felt style continues to prove sartorially popular, not only at the races but also at weddings.
We also include a complimentary hatbox to keep your top hat in and can personalise the hat by monogramming.
.
Our Town Shell top hat has a 5.2cm curled brim with a 13.5cm crown and is finished with a 4cm wool felt band.
Each topper is fully lined with a leather inner headband.
For Lock’s grey Drab Shell top hat, carefully buff the surface with a piece of crushed, white tissue paper.
Top hats should be restored after every use. Locks offers a range of services – please contact us to discuss with our master hatters.
