How Should a Fedora Hat Fit?

At Lock & Co., a well-fitting fedora should feel like a natural extension of your personal style, secure yet comfortable, structured yet wearable. It should sit neatly on the head, complementing your silhouette without ever feeling forced.

Here's how to find, or fine-tune, the perfect fit.

The Ideal Fedora Fit

A properly fitted, a fedora should:

  • Sit level across the forehead, just above the eyebrows and ears.
  • Feel snug but not tight, secure enough that it won't move in a breeze, but never constrictive.
  • Rest comfortably on the widest part of your head, where the hat naturally wants to sit.
  • Maintain clean lines without gapping, tipping, or squeezing.

Every Lock & Co. fedora is individually blocked on traditional hat forms, allowing for elegant proportions and natural comfort.

Common Fit Questions

Should it leave a mark on my forehead?

No. A well-fitted fedora should never leave indentations or pressure marks. If it does, it's likely too tight.

Can I wear it tilted back?

You can - but the fit should still feel balanced. If tilted too far, the crown may lose contact with the head and feel unstable.

Is there a difference between men's and women's fit?

At Lock & Co., our hats are designed to suit all, the only difference is in the style and silhouette. Fit remains consistent across collections.
