Martin Wade

by Lock Hatters Admin

Martin Wade is an artist who connects us to our own journey by bringing to life the power of art to heal, express love and remind us that what it is to be human is all around us.

Martin's own journey to art was unexpected. He served as a lawyer in the British Army for fifteen years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, with operations in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Bosnia and finally, Afghanistan. His tour of Afghanistan resulted in a diagnosis of Complex PTSD in 2010 and subsequent medical discharge.

During his admission to a series of psychiatric hospitals, Martin discovered his talent for painting as part of his treatment. He continues to paint today, selling his original works and limited edition prints worldwide.

“His abstract works explore emotions, adversity and a survivor's instinct to recover against all the odds. The emphasis of his art is not one of gloom brought about by trauma and the hidden wounds of war but one of optimism, compassion and faith in common humanity.”

Martin Wade, Artist

Lock & Co. have proudly supported Martin over the years and can now offer a few of his War Flag prints to our customers with a donation being made to the Supporting Wounded Veterans charity for each print sold.

War Flag is a Limited Edition Giclee print by the artist Martin Wade, and it is his reflection on the legacy of war and the sacrifice and enduring physical and mental injuries and wounds of war for Servicemen and Servicewomen and for those that lost a loved one or care for a wounded veteran.

Whilst this is a personal reflection on the legacy of war it is also a celebration and acknowledgement of the humanity found in all those British people who in their own unique ways ardently support military charities.  It is therefore symbolic of our shared identity.

From the purchase price, £50 of the profits from the sale of each print will go towards the Supporting Wounded Veterans charity.

A flat cap is a rounded, soft-crowned hat with a short, stiff brim at the front. By the late 19th and early 20th century, they were worn by everyone from labourers and farmers to gentlemen at leisure.
