Which hat suits my face shape?

Face shapes can be - oval, round, square or heart-shaped. Here at Lock & Co., we have put together some recommendations of hat styles for the various face shapes:

    Hats for Oval Faces

Almost any hat style works well for oval faces, so experiment with different shapes and sizes to match your hat to your outfit or mood. Whether you prefer the classic sophistication of a fedora, the relaxed feel of a luxurious baseball cap, or the vintage vibe of a cloche hat, feel free to experiment and find the perfect match for your style. Classic hats for an oval face include fedoras, sun hats, and wide-brimmed hats. But for something more adventurous, try a bowler hat, pork pie hat beret, flat cap or bucket hat.

    Hats for Long Faces

Ideal hats for long faces balance proportions and add width to the face. Wide-brimmed hats, such as sun hats or Panama hats, create this balance. Additionally, hats with rounded or low crowns, like bowler hats or cloche hats worn low, can soften the elongated shape of a long face. A fedora is also a good choice as it has a short crown and a wide brim.

    Hats for Round Faces

Hats for round face shapes will generally include wide-brimmed hats like a fedora, wide-brim trilby, or a fuller shaped cap, like our Sandwich and Muirfield caps, to add definition and elongate your silhouette. We recommend that you wear the brim at an angle. A beret, cloche style with its retro vibe, pork pie hat, or a beanie pulled low will also work well.

    HATS FOR ROUND FACES

    Hats for Square Faces

Wear hats with rounded or curved edges to soften strong angles and create flattering, soft shapes. Square face shapes generally suit a wide-brimmed hat like a fedora, wide-brim trilby, or a fuller-shaped cap, like our Sandwich and Muirfield caps. We recommend you wear brims at an angle. Also consider a cloche, bucket hat, wide-brimmed Panama, sun hat for women, and a Panama or baseball cap for men.

    HATS FOR SQUARE FACES

    Hats for Heart-shaped Faces

Heart-shaped faces typically look stunning in hats with medium brims. We recommend wearing appropriate hat styles at an angle. Most hat styles work well, so experiment with a baseball cap, newsboy cap, fedora, boater, cloche, homburg, trilby, or beret and find which best meets your needs.

    HATS FOR HEART-SHAPED FACES

    Hats for Slimmer Frames

The narrower-brimmed hats, such as our Telstar Trilby with its distinctive tear-dropped shaped crown, are ideal for a slimmer frame.

    Hats for Tall People

In general, if you are tall, you should not wear small hats and vice versa. This is true to some extent, but the most important aspect is the confidence your hat gives you.
